Open Shelving

What do you think of open shelving? It's a kitchen trend that is here to stay, but some people are entirely against it. & I can see both sides to the argument.
  1. It's one more thing to have to keep neat + tidy at all times, OR
  2. It gives you a chance to showcase some of that beautiful dishware you own
Your kitchen should never be made solely of open shelving. Cabinets are key for hiding the plastic cups, stained casserole dishes, and chipped plates. A few open shelves are the perfect spot for you to show off those unique pieces that you love and want to look at all the time. The other thing I love about some open shelves are that it just has a homey and personable feel to it.

open shelving in the kitchen. Gray glass tile. lovely! I have open shelving... unfortunately all apartments are sorta already made. So I brought my shelving outside the kitchen :)

I think I'm in love with these open shelves for a small kitchen. All my glasses and plates match anyway so why not? Plus, it's probably less expensive than replacing the cabinets when I redo the kitchen. :)

Boost Kitchen Storage- Whether your kitchen is large or small, ample storage is always a selling point. Take advantage of unclaimed wall or corner space with open shelves to keep dishes, spices, and cookware within easy reach. Embellish plain shelves with decorative brackets to add personality. If you frequently entertain, consider mounting a wine rack next to cabinetry.

What do you think about classic white subway tile? We are considering changing out our blue subway for white and I think I am loving it! Love the two toned pale green and white combo.

You  may notice two common themes in the open shelving decor: the first is that rarely is a kitchen 100% open. Pick a small corner or nook for your shelves, or on either side of your stove top. The second theme is stacked white dishes and/or glass pieces. A combination of these two things will create a fabulous touch to your kitchen.
