DIY Towel Tote

14/03/2015

Good afternoon friends!

I've had a busy few days setting up this new DIY project. Basically, when it comes down to it, I learned two things: I'm really jumping the gun on Spring AND I'm also terrible at sewing. I still loved this DIY nonetheless and if you're even somewhat experienced with a sewing maching then this will be a total breeze for you!

The original post can be found here

You will need:
  • Two medium size towels
  • Fabric of your choice for pockets/lining
  • A sewing machine
  • Stuffing
  • Velcro

Cut two 3" pieces off the ends of towel 1. Fold each piece in half and sew along the seam. Turn them inside out. Set these pieces aside because they will soon become the straps.

I cannot STRESS ENOUGH how important it is to make these straps at least 3". The smaller they are, they become impossible to turn inside out and, like me, you will have to start all over.

Using the rest of towel 1, pin and sew the pillow case leaving one side open so you can stuff it with either a pillow or pillow stuffing. Then, sew it shut entirely. Leave yourself a few inches to attach the pillow to the other towel.

Roll your pillow up in the second towel and mark where you want your straps to go then attach!

The final touches are any sort of lining or pockets you want to add. I added lining along the lengths of my towel, one giant pocket on the outside as well as a small velcro pocket on the top!

All that's left to do is velco strips to the inside of the overlap so the tote stays shut.

Please note that the sewing machine and I are perfect strangers and therefore this took me quite a few hours and a LOT of patience. If you have a knack for sewing, you could probably do some really cool things with this project!

Now I just need to fast forward three months and I'm all set!
Let me know what you think!
