I've spent the last week painting my parents house because it needed a serious update. Goodbye buttercream yellow! And by this I mean Tom painted while I helped in small ways wherever possible while mostly just reading beside the fireplace. However, during this process, Tom & I had a small mishap that involved Mason's toy meeting two glass pendant's [ oops! ].
Off we went on search for new pendants.. to find not a whole lot. Lowes, Home Depot, Home Hardware etc.. has a good variety but it didn't have that certain character I had in mind. I rely on big box stores for building materials + supplies, and it's easy to rush to those stores for cheap quick options. But I'm telling you that there are other options out there that are totally affordable, unique, and beyond stunning. Trust me - we can do better than the Depot for our specialty accessory needs.
Here's what I came up with!
1. Class Jar Pendant - West Elm
These pendants are exactly what every country or rustic home needs. Mason jars are currently all the rage, along with the old-school industrial bulbs.
These are perfect for your home because they are completely unique and full of character. The simplicity of them speaks volumes, while the dim light inside adds a really comfortable atmosphere to the space. The best part? They retail for $99. Find the link here !
2. HEKTAR Pendant Lamp - Ikea
This pendant by Ikea is a timeless and classic fixture. I adore the charcoal gray which would be such a feature in a white kitchen with a marble counter top as it would pull out the gray veins.
This pendant would be beautiful in a more traditional home. They make a bold statement, are low-maintenance, and are the perfect piece to mix with other lighting fixtures as well because they are so sleek and simplistic. Throw some funky colours in to create the best ambience and appearance! These retail for $89.99 (although the bulb is sold separately) & can be purchased online here.
3. Metal Bell - Pottery Barn
My favourite pendant of all is the Metal Bell by Pottery Barn. The antique bronze (on the right) appears slightly more industrial than the others while the white & black are traditional. The best part about this fixture? It's extremely versatile and can be placed in mostly any room. I've even seen it in a laundry room which made a less-admired room of the home absolutely stunning. This retails for $99-$139 and can be found here.
4. Parisian Architectural Poste Collection - RH
For the final pendant, I chose something entirely different from Restoration Hardware. This fixture is for those of us that choose to draw attention to OTHER items in the room; and want to allow the lighting to simply disappear into the backdrop of our homes.
There's nothing wrong with subtle lighting. Subtle can still be beautiful! & that's what these pendants are. Because they almost hug the ceiling, and therefore can blend right in (if your ceiling is white), they tend to disappear but still create a beautiful ambience. Lighting doesn't have to always be bold and draw in attention! And I appreciate that about this fixture. It retails for $120 and the collection can be found here.
Which fixture is your favourite of these? Or which ones have you included in your home? I would love to see what pieces you have used for your home lighting!
